Harry’s Heroes: Euro Having a Laugh

-

Harry Redknapp is back managing a team of former England footballers whose fitness levels aren’t quite what they were! Over three episodes, the likes of Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock, Matt Le Tissier, Paul Merson and Lee Sharpe take to the training pitch, then head out for a tour of France and Italy before re-creating the 1966 World Cup final by facing Germany. They won their encounter with the Germans last time, but will they have the same luck again?

Harry Redknapp and his ex-England football stars did their country proud when they rolled back the years and beat their German rivals in the first series of Harry’s Heroes, just as England did in the famous 1966 World Cup victory. But now Harry and his lads must do it all again as a team of former German pros have challenged them to a rematch!

Retired Premier League players such as Lee Sharpe, Matt Le Tissier, David Seaman and Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock shed the pounds for the first grudge game, yet most of them have fallen back into bad habits since then.

‘I wasn’t surprised they’d put the weight back on,’ says Harry. ‘We were all very worried about Razor because doctors warned him he was seriously risking his

health if he didn’t change his ways’

In this latest three-part series running across the week, Harry and his assistant, John Barnes, watch over the old pros as they try to get back in shape, with new signings Michael Owen and Lee Hendrie joining the side. But

Harry then springs a

surprise on the lads.

‘We found a team who play with no clothes on,’ explains Harry, who managed clubs such as West Ham and Spurs. ‘The lads had the shock of their lives when they ran out on to the pitch and they weren’t too pleased with me. David Seaman was furious!’

The boys will also play in Italy, but will need to buckle down if they want another famous victory over the Germans in the final episode. Harry hasn’t ruled out a third series if they need a decider.

‘It was brilliant being with the boys again,’ he says. ‘It’s like being a coach again, but without the pressure. But I think we might need a few more signings if we do a third series!’
