There’ll be lots of laughs as comedian Alan Carr hosts updated versions of game shows from days gone by, such as Take Your Pick!, Strike It Lucky, Bullseye and The Price Is Right, all with new twists. First up is a celeb Play Your Cards Right, which sees Martine Mccutcheon with Jack Mcmanus, Eamonn Holmes and wife Ruth Langsford, Chris Ramsey and wife Rosie, plus Ore
Oduba and his wife Portia.
QYou’re hosting a different game show each week, which includes Strike It Lucky, Play Your Cards Right, Bullseye, The Price Is Right and Take Your Pick! So which one is your favourite?
A Bullseye, definitely – that’s the one taxi drivers talk to me about. On paper, it sounds pretty boring – just watching darts thrown. But it’s really tense! It was so nostalgic – and, of course, we have a speedboat. My friend asked me what it was like to work with Bully. I was like: ‘He’s a cartoon!’
Q This week is a celebrity version of Play Your Cards Right, with Martine Mccutcheon and Jack Mcmanus, Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, Chris Ramsey and his wife, Rosie, Ore Oduba and his wife, Portia.
How did it go? A I’m doing the old catchphrases from all the shows, so I used Bruce Forsyth’s classic ‘Didn’t they do well?’ here. For the celebrity version, the money goes to charity and some of these charities aren’t going to get much, I’m afraid!
Q Take Your Pick! looks tricky, trying to catch contestants out in the Yes/no game. Was that tough?
A Oh, it was exhausting thinking up new things to say, and some of our contestants are like spies, I couldn’t crack ’em. They’d definitely practised.
Q Would you make a good contestant? A I’d be rubbish at the darts on Bullseye and fairly bad at guessing the value of things in The Price Is Right. I could do Strike It Lucky, maybe, because that’s just pressing a button, really.
Q Do you now fancy hosting a brand-new game show? A Yeah, if the format’s right. Pointless is great because it’s simple. Those are the shows that work best. This Epic Gameshow series is like going on safari and wanting to see the ‘Big Five’ – they’re the ones that started it all.
Q Any other shows you’d like to bring back? A Maybe 3-2-1, but I feel when you look back, it didn’t make any sense. You’re playing a quiz, then a bin comes out!
