BBC1
It’s a big day for Kian and Jac as they wait to hear from Max Mcgerry whether Darwin has won the pitch for the new cardiology unit. Jac’s confidence is buoyed when she deals with a flirty patient. But later they’re both left stunned when Max says private firm Kestrel have won the contract, not Darwin. Devastated, Jac needs to be comforted – and it seems Kian might be in the right place at the right time…
HHOLBY CITY Tuesday, 8pm BBC1 Drama
olby City recently took a break, leaving us on an almighty cliffhanger, as registrar Xavier Duval was killed in a tragic accident while trying to expose scheming medic Cameron Dunn.
Meanwhile, Essie di Lucca learnt her cancer had returned, a stressed-out Fletch battled with a nursing shortage, and Jac Naylor had ambitions for Darwin, hoping that acting CEO,
Max Mcgerry, shared her vision.
Sadly, it looked like Max was going back on the booze. She attended an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting... and who should she bump into but Guy Self!
As the medical drama returns this week, neurosurgeon Guy surprises Max at the hospital when he arrives with a former patient.
Alan Locke was fitted with a deep brain stimulator implant several years ago to treat his OCD and he is now experiencing hallucinations.
Ric Griffin suggests to Max that Alan’s current condition could be Guy’s fault. Max jumps to Guy’s defence – but doesn’t want to let on that they’re seeing each other.
Working relationship
Max soon learns that Alan has hit his head in a recent fall. Then, when Alan has a major outburst on the ward and it’s clear that he needs urgent surgery, Max tells Ric that she and Guy will be operating…
‘Guy’s a brilliant surgeon, so he relishes being back doing what he’s good at,’ says John Michie, who plays him. ‘Guy’s a better surgeon than Max by a long shot. I’m not sure he’d have the courage to tell her that – but he’d certainly tell other people!’
Later, Max offers Guy a job as neurosurgeon on AAU and he accepts. But when Ric finds out, he’s not happy.
‘Guy and Ric respect each other as far as their work goes, but Ric is a much nicer person,’ says John. ‘Both Guy and Ric see themselves as the alpha males of this hospital, which inevitably causes friction.’
