The A Word
Ashley Jensen returns as the Cotswolds detective investigates a haunted houseé
TUESDAY 9 June, 9pm BBC1 Drama
The third series of the heartwarming family drama draws to a close this week in tense fashion as Rebecca (Molly Wright) goes into labour in the middle of the countryside with only brother
Joe on hand to help… Meanwhile, as Paul and Alison both face troubling matters of the heart, Louise struggles to cope with Ralph moving out. Can Maurice put a smile back on her face or will he only make matters worse?
After passing her exams, Agatha is a fully-fledged private investigator in this third series of the Cotswold-set mystery drama. Drumming up clients for her detective agency, though, is proving to be a tough task in this week’s double bill.
‘She’s official. She’s not an amateur sleuth any more – she’s a proper PI!’ says Ashley Jensen, who plays her. ‘She has a wonderful new office, which is, of course, bold, out there, and a little bit too much – a bit like Agatha, really!’
With business not exactly booming, Agatha’s ex-fiancé James suggests she could promote herself by investigating a local haunted house. However, are the mysterious goings-on the work of a restless spirit, or is there a more downto-earth explanation?
‘Agatha is one of the most fun characters I’ve ever played,’ says Ashley. ‘She’s a confident woman who doesn’t take no for an answer. And to be able to put on Agatha’s stilettos again and walk around the English countryside on gravel, sand and cobbles, to climb fences and walls, is a joy for me. I love these challenges, and we’re very lucky to be able to film the show in these beautiful surroundings.’
