Brenda, Nicky’s been working all day, not sleeping at night and surviving on coffee to keep her going.
Unfortunately for
Nicky, open-heart surgery was the only option for Brenda and, while she survived the op, her future looks bleak. When Nicky arrives at work to find Brenda being resuscitated by Jac after a cardiac arrest, she swoops into action…
‘For Nicky, it’s about repaying this woman who cared for her growing up,’ reveals Belinda Owusu, who plays her. ‘When Nicky sees Brenda arresting, she is hands on in making sure she survives.’
Debt
As if Nicky doesn’t have enough on her plate, she also has the worry of paying off her mum Tracey’s £3,000 debt.
‘Brenda’s everything Nicky wishes her mum was – stable, secure and supportive – but Tracey can’t stop being a train wreck,’ says Belinda. ‘Nicky is starting to lose control.’
When Brenda arrests again, Nicky battles to revive her but, sadly, Brenda dies.
‘Nicky blames herself,’ says Belinda. ‘It was her job to keep Brenda alive – all she can think about is that she failed.’
Devastated, Nicky suffers a panic attack. Then later, alone in the locker room, events take a tragic turn…
