The Voice UK
Can reigning champ Olly Murs win for a third time? Not if the others can help it…
2 January, 8.30pm ITV Entertainment
Singing sensation Anne-marie joins Olly Murs, will.i.am and Sir Tom Jones in the red swivel chairs in their search for the next big thing in the music biz. Emma Willis is again hosting the series, which this time has a new twist called The Block.
The Voice UK may only just have crowned its 2020 winner, but the singing show returns to ITV this week – with a brand-new coach and an exciting format twist!
As the Blind Auditions kick off for 2021, award-winning singer Anne-marie – replacing Meghan Trainor – takes her seat in one of the red spinning chairs to join coaches Sir Tom Jones, will.i.am and Olly Murs in the search for a new singing star.
‘Anne-marie is funny, quirky, cool, really endearing and brings something fresh and modern to the panel,’ says Olly, who won last series with singer Blessing
Chitapa. ‘Each
coach brings a different flavour and a different personality, and Anne-marie has personality in abundance! She’s definitely one to watch this year.’
Filmed in front of a virtual ‘at home’ audience, this series also introduces ‘The Block’, a special button that gives each coach one chance to stop a rival from securing a singer for their team.
‘The Block button is great fun and really gives the show a new dynamic,’ says Olly. ‘You like a singer, so hit your button but as the chair turns you realise someone has blocked you. You can probably guess who got blocked most!’
Olly believes that, after
winning with Blessing and
Molly Hocking in 2019, the other coaches are fighting back. But can he make it three
wins in a row? ‘I’m quietly confident, yes,’ says
Olly. ‘But the other coaches are definitely coming for me, that’s for sure!’
