MIDSOMER MURDERS Easter Sunday, 8pm ITV Drama

Fantasy becomes reality in this week’s Midsomer Murders when Barnaby and Winter are called to investigate a murder in the woods of Little Worthy.

It’s Halloween and the victim, a local handyman, has been killed by a terrifying wolf figure in the dead of night.

‘There’s an old legend saying the woods are inhabited by a deadly beast,’ says Neil Dudgeon, now in his 10th year of playing DCI John Barnaby. ‘It’s a case of, “If you go down to the woods today, something terrible might tear you apart!”’

Meanwhile the village’s internet cafe, The Hub, is running a competition to create a modern urban myth. A local photographer has created the Wolf Hunter, a figure that’s proved so popular online it’s gone viral.

Scared to death

‘It’s old meets new,’ says Neil. ‘But some of the locals aren’t happy, because while the wolf myth is good for some business, it’s bad for others.’

Married couple Rowan and Brendan Yarrow have recently set up a glamping business but fear the rumours will stop people visiting. Dedicated campers Pat Everett (Mark Williams) and his wife Ronnie (Siobhan Redmond) have been coming to Little Worthy for the past 36 years but vow this will be their last stay.

‘I’ve known Mark Williams for decades, so it was lovely to catch up,’ says Neil, who also praises his younger cast members, including Poppy Gilbert and Molly Harris, who play friends Kelly and Josie.

‘They were both effortlessly brilliant. On Midsomer we’re not just working with stars that have been long established, we’re working with the stars of tomorrow!’
