Ahigh-flying married couple’s lives are shattered when a burglary at their luxurious coastal home goes terribly wrong, in a dark tale full of cover-ups, corruption and murder.
Sam (Tom Meeten, Motherland) and Rebecca (Elaine Cassidy, No Offence) seem to have it all until two teenagers break into their house late one night, after the couple have been taking drugs with their friend Angela (Helen Behan, The Virtues). Yet when the robbers try to escape through a window, Sam fatally stabs one in the back.
He convinces his wife to say she did it to save his life, but while the police seem to accept the trio’s story, family liaison officer Karen Bailey isn’t convinced...
Hunting the truth
‘Bailey has been in many houses after something terrible has happened,’ says ex-corrie and Mount Pleasant star Sally Lindsay, who plays her. ‘She has this sixth sense that something doesn’t quite add up.’
As the four-part drama shows over the week, it becomes clear that Sam and Rebecca aren’t as happily married as they seem. Meanwhile, the young man’s father (Kriss Dosanjh, Coronation Street) tells Karen his son would never have attacked anyone.
‘Bailey realises her mum would say the same thing about her,’ says Sally.
‘It’s what sets her on this path to find out what really happened.’
Sally was inspired by her own mother, a social worker, when she took the role.
‘My mum says she could walk into a room and work out who was mistreating who in five minutes,’ she says. ‘Bailey has the same gift!’
