Us Brits love glamping, it seems, as people are ditching their canvas tents in favour of ‘glamorous camping’ accommodation.
This week, Johnny Vegas is getting in on the craze in new four-part series Johnny Vegas: Carry on Glamping.
Filmed over two years, the documentary follows Johnny and his assistant, Bev, as they source and renovate five vintage buses for a ‘boutique’ camping site in North Wales.
But with no experience of running a business or carrying out renovations, Johnny and Bev soon run into problems…
‘I got drunk one night, went online and bought a bus… from Malta,’ recalls Johnny, 50. ‘We had three goes at transporting the bus and, on the third attempt, the ferry caught fire!’
The Maltese bus – which does eventually make it to the UK – was named by Johnny after his beloved mum, Patricia, who sadly passed away during filming.
‘It’s a shame she can’t see what we’ve achieved, she’d be overwhelmed,’ says Johnny. ‘But a bit of her lives on.’
