Jane Horrocks reveals all about the second series of ambulancecrew comedy Bloods…

Odd-couple paramedics Maleek and Wendy are back in the driving seat as medical comedy Bloods returns on Sky Box Sets and NOW and airs weekly on Sky Comedy and Sky Showcase (Wed, 10pm).
Maleek (Samson Kayo) is excited about his upcoming holiday – until he and Wendy get taken
Good to talk… George wants to help the paramedics hostage at a chicken shop. Wendy (Jane Horrocks), though, is happy to take her chances with the disgruntled employee brandishing a cleaver if it means she doesn’t have to go home to her feckless adult son, Spencer (Nathan Foad).
‘Spencer is very annoying!’ says Jane. ‘He’s very needy, and not very selfsufficient – it doesn’t say a lot for Wendy’s parenting!’
While tough-talking Maleek was initially horrified that being paired with Wendy would permanently damage his street cred, he gradually warmed to the chatty divorcée over the course of the first season. But an upcoming twist will see the pair’s friendship put to the test…
‘It will be interesting to see how the audience lean on what Wendy does,’ teases Jane. ‘Has she let her partner down, or done what is ethically right?’
Fresh approach
There’s also a new face in the depot as counsellor George (Katherine Kelly) tries to improve the staff’s mental health, much to the irritation of team leader Jo (Lucy Punch).
‘She has opposite views about mental health to Jo,’ says Jane. ‘Should time be spent on counselling and talking about people’s issues, or getting out there and saving lives? It’s an interesting dilemma!’
