Buck Wild, the swashbuckling prehistoric weasel adventurer, gets his own spin-off movie. The story begins as trouble-prone possum brothers Crash and Eddie decide to prove to big sister Ellie that they can survive by themselves. Unfortunately, they aren’t quite as ready to face the big wide world as they think they are, and after stumbling into the Lost World, a land full of dinosaurs, they get cornered by raptors – so Buck swings into action to rescue them…
‘The Ice Age films have so many fabulous characters,’ says Simon Pegg, who voices Buck. ‘In a movie, you can only spend so much time with each of them, so this is a lovely way to give some time over, not only to Buck, Crash and Eddie, but also to some new characters, too.’
Dream team
One new character is Zee (Justina Machado), a zorilla who used to be a part of Buck’s hero squad but found that his hot-headedness made him impossible to work with. Reunited after all this time, there’s still tension between Buck and Zee, but they’ll have to work together to save Crash and Eddie – and themselves – from brainiac dinosaur Orson (Utkarsh Ambudkar), who’s plotting to take control of the Lost World.
‘One of the really sweet sub-themes in the film is about having the capacity to ask for help,’ says Simon. ‘Buck is such a loner, and he’s so used to doing everything by himself – the idea of trusting his friends is a little uncomfortable for him. In this movie, he learns that it’s not just OK to ask for help, but that it’s also OK for a guy to ask for help from his female friends, and trust in them to take over!’
