Jane Mcdonald packs her bags for a tropical adventure
Clear turquoise waters, lush rainforests and captivating sealife are all waiting for singer and presenter Jane Mcdonald as she heads to the Caribbean for her new series.
Must-see sights
‘I’ll be showing viewers the sights and secrets and sharing a few tips and must-do activities,’ says singer and presenter Jane, who begins her tropical trip in Barbados, before visiting the islands of St Lucia, Grenada and Antigua later in the four-part series.
First on the list is a snorkelling trip in
Carlisle Bay where she explores the wreck of a French ship, the
Berwyn, which sank in 1919 and is now teeming with coral.
‘It’s the first time I’ve ever tried snorkelling and I was a bit apprehensive but I absolutely loved it. It shows it’s never too late to learn,’ says Jane. ‘Being surrounded by those turtles in crystal clear waters was a bit of a spiritual moment for me.’
Barbados is famous for rum, and Jane visits one of the island’s four distilleries, St Nicholas Abbey, to sample their wares. ‘It’s hundreds of years old and has been restored to its former glory,’ says Jane. ‘I took the little train that runs through the estate. The view there at the top of Cherry Tree Hill is one of the best in Barbados.’
She also embarks on a day trip to the northern tip of the island to go cave swimming, checks out the island’s nightlife and tries paddleboard yoga. ‘Barbados is somewhere I’ve wanted to visit ever since I was a little girl,’ says Jane. ‘I’ve got memories that will last a lifetime. The warm-hearted people and places will stay with me for ever.’
