TERROR at the trial!
Serial killer Meena makes a last-ditch attempt at revenge
It’s taken months to get to this point. But serial murderer Meena Jutla – whose village killing spree started last July
– is in court this week facing numerous crimes including the deaths of locals Leanna Cavanagh, Andrea Tate and Ben Tucker. But she’s not going down without a fight.
Explodes
‘In her mind, Meena’s going to blow them all away and they’re going to believe her. She thinks she’ll probably get away with it because she’s Meena and she gets away with everything,’ says Paige Sandhu, who plays the unhinged nurse.
As the trial begins, grieving doctor Liam is first up and he’s thrown when his former colleague – who killed his daughter, Leanna – portrays herself as a meek mouse.
‘Meena’s changed her body language; her shoulders are hunched up,’ explains Paige.
The jury seems sympathetic until Meena’s defence team accuses the married man of having an affair with Meena, at which point he explodes.
Worried that Liam’s anger has damaged the case, Meena’s sister, Manpreet, is more stressed than ever. She’s the only person to have heard Meena confess – but can she convince the court in the face of Meena’s tactics?
‘Meena’s trying to prove that Manpreet is a liar, but as Manpreet breaks down about her ordeal, the jury starts to buy it,’ adds Paige.
‘Meena gets angry, but Manpreet’s testimony is then ripped apart because the barrister proves she has a history of lying.’
Headline news
Relishing the spectacle of it all, Meena refuses when she’s advised not to testify. She’s also done some groundwork and has a prison officer onside.
After rehearsing in her cell, Meena gives an Oscar-winning performance in court, dropping a huge bombshell as she goes…
‘Meena has one more horrifying confession to make. One that has the potential to plague Manpreet forever,’ teases Paige.
As the jury makes its decision, how will things end? Suffice to say what happens next is headline news the next day…
‘When I found out the storyline that they’ve written,’ comments Paige, ‘I was like: “Ooh, this is actually way better than I could have imagined!”’
