From Succession to Strictly, we’ve enjoyed some top-notch TV over the past year, and it’s time, once again, to celebrate the best in the business. This Sunday, the stars will be out for the 2022 BAFTA TV Awards – hosted for the third year in a row by Richard Ayoade – so let’s take a look at the most hotly contested categories…
Leading Actor
Sean Bean (above), a winner in 2018, is nominated for Time, as is his co-star in the
BBC1 series, Stephen Graham, for C4’s Help. Also in the running are Hugh Quarshie (Stephen), Olly Alexander (It’s a Sin), Samuel Adewunmi (You Don’t Know Me) and David Thewlis (Landscapers).
Leading Actress
ITV’S Too Close picks up nominations for Denise Gough and Emily Watson (below), while Kate Winslet lands her first TV nod for Sky Atlantic’s Mare of Easttown. They’re up against Lydia West
(It’s a Sin), Niamh Algar (Deceit) and 2019 winner Jodie Comer (Help).
Drama Series
After Sky and Netflix dominated this category last year, the BBC and ITV are back on top with nods for Vigil, Unforgotten, Manhunt: The Night Stalker (starring Martin Clunes, above) and BBC3 comedy drama In My Skin.
Soap & Continuing Drama
Last year’s winner Casualty (below) is looking for two in a row, but it’s up against recently ended sister show Holby City – not to mention powerhouse previous winners Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
Entertainment Programme
Sky Arts’ spoken-word series Life & Rhymes will be hoping for a repeat of last year’s win, but faces strong challenges from Strictly, Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and
An Audience with
Adele (above).
