AJ Odudu on how she and Mo Gilligan will be kick-starting Saturday mornings as The Big Breakfast returns…

THE BIG BREAKFAST Saturday, 10am, C4 Entertainment Q What can we expect from The Big Breakfast?

A There’s a new house for a start. We’ve upgraded it, so it’s even bigger and brighter this time round. There’s more chaos and more good vibes! Judi Love is back on the bed, Phil Gayle is returning to do the news and Melvin Odoom will be out and about around the country with games and competitions. It’s mayhem – bonkers but brilliant. What a way to start your day!

Q How do you feel about hosting the iconic show?

A I loved watching The Big Breakfast growing up. It’s nerve-racking taking on such a historic series because you want to do it justice. I’m excited for me and Mo to put our own stamp on the show.

Q Have you spoken to any past presenters about their memories of hosting it?

A I Denise worked Van with Outen on ITV’S Cooking with the Stars, and she said it was the best show ever to work on. For a lot of people, it was one of their entrances into TV: the celebrity booker on my series of Strictly Come Dancing was in one of the Families of the Week. It feels so special to be part of that history now.

Q Why do you think The Big Breakfast has a special place in viewers’ memories?

A The Breakfast Big changed the face of breakfast TV. Everything else was really straight and suited. Everyone was very well-behaved. So to have a bit of naughtiness in the morning felt really fun.

Q Would you say that you’re a ‘morning person’?

A I used to be, but that’s started to change, so doing this show is going to be interesting! My alarm clock is a playlist that eases me out of bed. Then I’ll have a shower, brush my teeth and have my breakfast. I’ll do a workout every other day. So, saying all that, maybe I am a morning person – I get quite a lot done!
