Tom Parker is blackmailed by cunning Colonel
Lennox this week. Lennox (Tom Weston-jones) refuses to settle the Army’s debts to Sanditon’s shopkeepers until Tom (Kris Marshall) repays his gambling losses to him.
So far, Tom’s hidden his money problems from wife Mary (Kate Ashfield), but when Lady Denham (Anne Reid) informs Mary that Lennox’s regiment has a history of leaving unpaid bills behind them, Tom’s forced to come clean.
‘Tom has drive and vision, and Mary loves that,’ says Kate. ‘But he can be led astray. He makes wrong decisions – he should consult Mary, and he doesn’t!’
