The 1980 movie American Gigolo catapulted Richard Gere to fame, and over 40 years later, this series catches up with his character, Julian Kaye, on his release from prison. Julian, this time played by Jon Bernthal, is a former male escort who has spent 15 years in jail for a murder he didn’t commit. And now he must try to reconcile his new self with the man he once was. To do that, he reconnects with the love of his life, Michelle (Gretchen Mol), as well as those who betrayed him. Rosie O’donnell plays Detective Sunday, a tough cop who’s determined to unravel the truth. ‘When Sunday started as a cop, things were not easy for women in the police and now she’s at the end of her career and she’s trying to make good on this one case that she feels she dropped the ball on,’ says Rosie.
‘Héctor Elizondo played Sunday in the movie and I was thrilled that they weren’t going to change the dialogue – they were just going to cast a woman in the role.’
