Best known for…

Bruce played Leonard Dunn, who had a ‘will they, won’t they?’ relationship with Wendy Craig’s character, Ria Parkinson, in the 1970s-80s BBC sitcom Butterflies.

In 2015, he joined C4 soap Hollyoaks as Derek Clough, Nana Mcqueen’s abusive ex. He guest-starred in a

2013 episode of New Tricks, which also featured Nicholas Lyndhurst, one of his fellow cast members from Butterflies. In October 2019, he appeared in an episode of Doctors with another former Butterflies co-star, Wendy Craig. He also had roles in Keeping up Appearances and Poirot.

Family life…

Bruce died from cancer on 16 August, aged 83. He’s survived by his children from his marriage to novelist Barbara Latham, who passed away in April this year.
