Twelve members of the public are on a mission to prove they have the skills to become Prime Minister…

-

We all have opinions on what our politicians should be doing, but how many of us would have the skills to actually run the country?

Twelve ambitious members of the public, with views across the political spectrum, are on a mission to prove they have what it takes. From creating new policies to handling the press, proving their leadership skills and winning votes, they’ll be put through their paces by political heavyweights Alastair Campbell and Baroness Sayeeda Warsi.

Contenders

‘Alastair and I both despair at the state of politics. This series is about finding the next generation of leaders,’ says Baroness Warsi, exChairman of the Conservatives and Britain’s first Muslim Cabinet member.

‘We want it to inspire people,’ adds Alastair, who was Tony Blair’s political strategist. ‘We need a system where somebody with real passion, talent and belief can get into politics.’ The six-part series begins with the candidates – including an activist, an Afghan refugee and Jackie Weaver, who became an internet sensation when footage of a parishcouncil Zoom meeting she attended went viral – being challenged to come up with policies to improve primary-school education. They must then present their ideas to the press and the public, who vote for the leader they think is best.

‘It’s 12 people from very different backgrounds. Most were coming from a place of being really frustrated and disillusioned about politics,’ explains Alastair. ‘There are several candidates who I could see making an impact.’
