Having persuaded American criminologist-turned-wifekiller Jefferson Grieff (Stanley Tucci) to help find her missing friend Janice Fife (Dolly Wells), journalist Beth Davenport (Lydia West) returns to the UK armed with clues. However, before Beth can figure out Janice’s whereabouts, events spiral out of control at the home of troubled vicar Harry Watling (David Tennant) when his son, Ben, becomes convinced that his parents have something to do with maths tutor Janice’s disappearance.
Meanwhile, as deathrow inmate Grieff is set a date for his execution, Beth gets closer to the truth about
Janice when she finds herself in her friend’s flat. ‘Beth’s ambitious,’ says Lydia. ‘But throughout the show, we see her face difficult situations, and how she handles them is very telling of who she is.’ As the drama becomes increasingly bizarre and everyone’s lives collide in the most-surprising way, things take a bloody turn. ‘Until the last episode, you’re still questioning what Beth’s moral intentions are and, like everyone, she’s very complicated,’ teases Lydia.
