Fiona Bruce and her expert team are at Alexandra Palace, the birthplace of telly, for a special programme celebrating the BBC’S 100th anniversary. And there are some intriguing items of TV memorabilia to enjoy…
Ronnie Archermorgan is thrilled to meet Carole Hersee, the star of the BBC’S famous test card. Carole was eight when the original photo was taken and she became the most-aired face in British television history with 70,000 hours of airplay from 1967 to 1998. ‘My father was helping to design the colour test card and took some photographs of my sister and me to give them some ideas of how they could use it,’ says Carole. ‘And the committee decided that they would use a child in order to get facial colours for the television, and they decided to use me!’
Also in the show, Anita Dobson shares some of
Eastenders’ Angie Watts 1980s outfits, journalist Sally Magnusson (daughter of
Mastermind’s Magnus Magnusson) showcases the original leather Mastermind chair, and Fiona chats to Play
School legend Baroness Floella Benjamin, who brings along the show’s famous toys Humpty and Jemima.
‘The one thing most people know me for is taking them through the square, round and arched windows,’ says Baroness Benjamin. ‘I loved every moment on that wonderful show!’
