The London-born star, made a Dame in 2014, was most famous for playing crime writer and amateur sleuth Jessica Fletcher in the TV series Murder, She Wrote from 1984 to 1996.
Other achievements…
Dame Angela’s first film, Gaslight (1944), earned her the first of three Oscar nominations. Later, she appeared in National Velvet, The Manchurian Candidate and Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
She was also the voice of the teapot in Beauty and the Beast.
Family life…
Dame Angela died peacefully in her sleep on 11 October at her home in LA. She was 96 and is survived by three children, plus several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
