SAS Rogue Heroes
Sunday, 9pm, BBC1 Drama
Lieutenant David Stirling (Connor Swindells) shares a drink with French spy Eve (Sofia Boutella) in this week’s episode and the espionage agent is very interested to hear more about his special new unit. It’s soon clear the pair share a special connection, but with Stirling and his men setting off into the desert on their first mission, will she ever see him or his newly formed SAS again?
Lieutenant David Stirling almost died in a failed parachute jump last week, but the accident has made him more determined than ever to create a special new unit to fight the Germans.
Realising he must gain permission for his new project, he stages an audacious break-in at Cairo’s Army GHQ during this week’s episode, in the hope of presenting his idea to General Auchinleck.
After sneaking past security to find the man in charge of the entire North African Army, Stirling is delighted when his plan pays off and after gaining the General’s blessing, he meets another man who’s keen to see him succeed.
Deception
Impressed by Stirling’s spirit, Lieutenant Colonel Wrangel Clarke (Dominic West) has a proposition for the soldier.
As the Head of British Security Intelligence Middle East, Wrangel Clarke has spent months inventing a regiment of soldiers called the SAS, in the hope of deceiving the Germans. Up until now the SAS have been figments of his imagination, with planes made out of wood and actors posing for photos in uniform, but this week Wrangel Clarke offers Stirling the chance to bring his regiment to life.
With little faith in Stirling’s project, the Army’s top brass are dubious, but Stirling is determined to show the unit can succeed.
‘Stirling is egotistical and flawed,’ says Connor Swindells who plays him. ‘That made him great fun to play!’
