Passion and revenge are at the heart of this lavish new prelude to the classic 18th-century French novel. Set in Paris on the brink of the French revolution, it follows lovers Camille (Alice Englert) and Valmont (Nicholas Denton) and tells the story of their rise from the slums to become the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont (famously portrayed by Glenn Close and John movie). noblewoman Malkovich Lesley Genevieve Manville in the 1988 plays de Merteuil, who while takes Paloma Camille Faith under is acid-tongued her wing, aristocrat Florence de Regnier. ‘You see Valmont and Camille pitted against each other,’ says Nicholas. ‘You understand the undercurrent of their traumas, and why they are the way they are.’
