Tim Allen steps back into his iconic role as Scott Calvin, the ordinary father who was forced to take over from Father Christmas in the 1990s festive movie classic The Santa Clause and its sequels. In this spin-off series, we catch up with Scott again as he’s about to reach his 65th birthday.

With his duties as Santa taking their toll, Scott would be the first to admit he’s not quite as efficient as he was in his heyday. When he finds a clause in his contract that allows him to retire as Santa, he hopes to take his family away from the North Pole. But first he must choose a worthy successor to run the workshop and take care of his beloved elves, led by head elf Bernard (played once again by David Krumholtz).

End of an era

Elizabeth Mitchell is back in the role of Scott’s wife Carol, AKA Mrs Claus, joined by their children Cal (Austin Kane) and Sandra (played by Tim’s real-life daughter Elizabeth

Allen-dick). Teen Sandra has been particularly lonely with no other humans for company, and the family moves back to the regular world in anticipation of

Dad’s retirement.

Married to the job…

Scott and Carol

However, they’re soon drawn back to the magical North Pole when it becomes clear Santa has ‘retired too soon and hired the wrong guy’.

Elves begin disappearing and Christmas itself is at risk of ending. It all plays out over the six enchanting episodes with more twists and turns than any of Santa’s sleigh rides.

‘As I walked on set for the first time in the full Santa regalia, everybody got very quiet, both adults and kids,’ says Tim Allen. ‘There were big smiles on people’s faces. Little kids go quiet and I had totally forgotten that. It did feel like Santa was in the room.’
