Love never dies!

Princess Margaret meets her former flame, which her into a spin…

-

Fans of The Crown will remember the first series, set in the 1950s, when Princess Margaret was forbidden from marrying Captain Peter Townsend because he was a divorcé.

Now it’s 1992 and Margaret (Lesley Manville) is shocked when Peter (Timothy Dalton) writes out of the blue to say he’ll be at a London ball and would love to see her.

As the couple awkwardly meet again, Margaret’s reminded of the love she should have enjoyed.

Later, she’s astonished when the Queen seems ready to allow Princess Anne to divorce and marry again. There’s a big royal row in the fourth episode, which becomes another headache for the Queen during her ‘annus horribilis’ when three of her children’s marriages fail and a fire sweeps through Windsor Castle.

‘You see the loneliness of Margaret’s life,’ explains Lesley. ‘She hasn’t had a constant partner. She’s a woman who knows she’s probably looking at life alone.’
