-

On 13 March 2008, Norwegian student Martine Vik Magnussen enjoyed a night out with friends in London, where she was studying, to celebrate finishing her exams.

Afterwards, she went back to classmate Farouk Abdulhak’s apartment but she didn’t return home, and on 16 March, Martine’s raped and strangled body was found in the basement of Farouk’s apartment block, partially covered by rubble.

The case, which remains open, is featured in a new series on Discovery+.

‘It was like entering a void,’ recalls Martine’s mother, Kristin, of being told the horrifying news. ‘Everything else just blocked out.’

In the days Martine was missing, her friends had tried to contact Farouk, the last person to see her, but he ignored their messages and Distraught… Martine’s deleted his mother, Kristin Facebook account.

It later emerged he’d flown to his native Yemen on his billionaire father’s private jet.

Today he enjoys a privileged lifestyle while Martine’s family continue to fight for justice.

‘The suspect has to come back to England to explain what happened to Martine,’ says Martine’s father, Odd Petter. ‘Anything else is completely unacceptable. I won’t accept that. I’ll never let it happen.’
