I owe him everything!

Corinne underwent a double hand transplant – now she’s nominated her surgeon for an award…

-

Corinne Hutton had to relearn everything, from using a pen to brushing her hair, when she lost her hands and feet in 2013 following a battle with sepsis.

For six years, her life was an uphill struggle, until she was offered hope from pioneering plastic surgeon Professor Simon Kay.

‘I was the first person in the UK to go on the double handtransplant waiting list,’ explains

Corinne, 52, from Renfrewshire, who is mum to 13-year-old Rory. ‘But finding a match didn’t happen overnight.’

Gruelling

Finally, in 2019, Corinne underwent the UK’S first-ever double hand transplant in a gruelling 12-hour operation. Now, she’s nominating her surgeon, Professor Kay, for the Best Doctor Award in this year’s star-studded Who Cares Wins Awards.

The event, celebrating healthcare heroes, takes place at London’s Roundhouse and is hosted by Long Lost Family’s Davina Mccall.

Corinne believes Professor Kay, who’s performed 15 hand transplants, deserves the Best Doctor accolade.

‘What Professor Kay did is life-changing,’ she says. ‘I owe him everything and I’ll never be able to thank him enough for the life he’s given back to me.’
