Wed, 10pm, Sky Comedy & Sky Showcase Comedy drama (box set, Sky Box Sets & NOW)

Sheridan Smith plays accountant Rosie, who copes with stress by self-medicating with drugs, alcohol and chocolate. But after an embarrassing incident at her brother’s wedding, she needs a change… Look out for Father Ted stars Ardal O’hanlon and Pauline Mclynn as Rosie’s parents.

Rosie Molloy is on the path to selfdestruction in Sky’s new series, but can she mend her ways? The six-part comedy drama stars Sheridan Smith as Rosie, who has a high-flying job but is addicted to booze, cigarettes, sugar, shopping and sex.

‘Rosie is complex, because she’s suffering from the illness of addiction. She’s been through a lot in her past,’ says Sheridan. ‘She’s got a huge heart, though – she’s flawed yet lovable.’

As the series begins, Rosie wakes up in hospital after disgracing herself at her brother’s wedding and she realises she needs to rein in her behaviour, particularly as her dad, Conall (Ardal O’hanlon), is very ill.

Struggles

But when she decides to give up everything she’s been addicted to, she learns it’s harder than it looks. ‘Rosie is in total denial. She gets herself in the most ridiculous situations but you want her to beat her addictions,’ explains Sheridan. ‘There’s an amazing balance – laugh-out-loud moments and moments that will make you cry.’ For Sheridan, one of the highlights of filming was the reunion between Ardal and his Father Ted co-star Pauline Mclynn, who plays Rosie’s no-nonsense mum, Win. ‘Pauline played my mum when I was 17 in my first-ever TV job!’ she reveals. ‘Watching the two of them was brilliant. They hadn’t worked together since they did Father Ted!’
