Evelyn Plummer was absolutely fuming when she spotted a man mistreating his dog last week. Unable to keep quiet about the cruelty, she started on him. The saga whipped up a storm and saw Evelyn stealing the animal while its thuggish owner, Terry, wasn’t looking!
Now, Evelyn’s in a pickle. Terry knows her face only too well, her greatgranddaughters are obsessed with the pet, who they’ve named Taylor, and the dog can’t be kept inside 24/7.
When Terry corners the OAP in the precinct, she denies knowing anything about his missing mutt, only to see her daughter, Cassie, merrily walking down the cobbles with the kidnapped canine!
As Evelyn ushers them into No.9, Terry lurks, watching their every move. And when she turns up to her shift at Dev’s, he strikes! Flipping the shop’s sign to ‘closed’, he moves in on the gran, demanding his dog back. Will someone save her from the threatening attack?
‘Evelyn’s scared to her boots but she’s not admitting to that,’ says Dame Maureen Lipman, who plays the tenacious pensioner.
Ultimatum
Evelyn’s grandson, Ty, later desperately hopes the drama is over. But Terry’s not done and turns up at Tyrone’s work, insisting that his dog is returned by 6pm or else… Will Evelyn and co do what he says? ‘She’s never one to stand by and let someone get away with something she perceives as an injustice,’ teases Dame Maureen.
‘But Cassie goes too far and endangers Evelyn’s life and gets her into more trouble. They fall out over this, even though they are in it together because she goes further than Evelyn would have done.’
