Tainted love!

Sally Lindsay plays the victim of a con artist in a dark drama…

-

Adivorced woman’s holiday romance takes a terrifying turn when she becomes the victim of a devastating scam in Channel 5’s thriller Love Rat.

The four-part series centres on mum-of-one Emma (Sally Lindsay), who’s recently split from husband

Pete (Neil Morrissey), and heads off on a solo trip to Cyprus to recharge her batteries. Once there, she catches the eye of suave, charismatic hotelier

Niko (Gerald Kyd) and love quickly blossoms.

Bright future

‘Emma’s in a midlife situation where her relationship has just broken down and she’s in a low place,’ says Sally. ‘She falls for Niko and it’s like a Shirley Valentine fantasy – she has found some light relief with this lovely man.’ Niko asks Emma to start a new life with him in Cyprus and move into a villa he’s buying, and, to the shock of both Pete and their daughter Susie (Imogen King), Emma agrees. But when Emma loans Niko the last bit of money he needs to purchase their new home, he disappears with the funds and she realises she’s been conned. ‘The manipulation is awful. Stealing your money is horrific, but stealing your heart is unforgivable. This scam is like an emotional theft,’ shares Sally.

‘Niko’s lit fires in her and unleashed something that hasn’t been there for years, then suddenly, he’s gone.’

Harsh reality

As a distraught Emma tries to come to terms with what has happened, she embarks on a mission to track down Niko and get her savings back, with help from Pete. But when the conspiracy deepens, her quest for justice becomes increasingly dangerous…

‘It gets very twisty!’ teases Sally.

‘I had to do a lot of running through olive fields and we did most of our own stunts – but not quite like Tom Cruise!’
