Tasty places!
Adam Richman visits British towns that share names with much-loved foods...
Globe-trotting American food expert Adam Richman has cooked up a rather unusual way of sampling Britain’s best grub – using a map as his menu!
‘I’m tracking down world-famous foods that share their names with the places in Britain they were created,’ explains the New Yorker, who tucks in to some of the UK’S most iconic foods and dishes in his new 10-part series Adam Richman Eats Britain.
Family connection
Adam seeks out the best sandwich in Sandwich,
Kent, samples delectable Bakewell puddings in Bakewell, Derbyshire, and tracks down tasty tattie scones in the Scottish town of Scone.
‘This show is my culinary love letter to a country I love,’ says the former Man V. Food presenter, who also explores a family connection to Britain when he goes to Yorkshire in the first episode.
‘My great-grandfather came from Leeds, so I visit Kirkgate Market, where he used to eat, and that was pretty emotional.’
Adam was also impressed with the county’s namesake, Yorkshire puddings.
‘We found a guy making them as wraps filled with roast beef,’ he says. ‘I called them giant rectangles of love!’
Diversity
Other highlights for Adam include chomping down on a juicy Aberdeen Angus steak in Aberdeen, eating a toastie oozing with Cheddar cheese in Cheddar, Somerset, and munching a Melton Mowbray pork pie in the Leicestershire town of the same name.
‘I’ve heard people say that British food lacks flavour but that’s not the case,’ adds Adam. ‘The deliciousness and diversity of your food is insane and this show celebrates that. Britain should take pride in her pantry. It’s wonderful!’
