Perfect paradise?

There’s exciting family news for Humphrey, plus a baffling murder case, as Beyond Paradise returns...

-

There’s a murderer on the loose in the fictional West Country town of Shipton Abbott as Death in Paradise spin-off Beyond Paradise returns – and, as luck would have it, DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi) are already on the scene when the killer strikes!

The detectives have been drafted in by colleague Margo Martins (Felicity Montagu) to help with the Shipton Abbott Players’ murdermystery night on a steam train – but during the dress rehearsal, an actor is killed and all of the castmates come under suspicion.

‘It’s amazing to be back for a second series,’ says Kris. ‘We were very lucky that we were,

I think, the BBC’S most successful new drama last year, so the leash has been let out a little bit – the show has grown and it’s more confident.’

Humphrey and his fiancée, Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton), are also embarking on an exciting new personal journey as they apply to become foster parents. ‘My mum fostered before I was born, so this is something close to my heart,’ says Kris. ‘Humphrey and Martha are characters with a lot of love to give, and they can provide a lot for children who are going through a transitional time in their life.’

The Cornish town of Looe stands in for Shipton Abbott on screen, and Kris reveals that the local residents have been very welcoming.

‘Looe isn’t really blessed with the infrastructure for 30 film trucks rolling into town, but they’re very accommodating!’ he smiles. ‘I’m not sure I would particularly love a 100-strong film crew down my road, but they really roll out the red carpet for us!’
