Star bakers!

THE GREAT CELEBRITY BAKE OFF Sunday, 7.40pm, C4 Cookery Jodie Whittaker is among the famous faces showing off their culinary talents for charity…

-

Jodie Whittaker is swapping the TARDIS for TV’S most legendary tent in C4’s The Great Celebrity Bake Off in aid of Stand Up to Cancer.

Hosted by Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, the five-part series sees 20 more brave stars try to win over Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith with their baking prowess. While the likes of Danny Dyer, Mel B, Sara Cox, Gabby Logan, Oti Mabuse and Dermot O’leary are wielding their wooden spoons later in the run, in the opening episode, former Doctor Who actor Jodie competes against singer Paloma

Faith, comic Munya Chawawa and broadcaster Spencer Matthews.

‘The tent looks just like it does on television. It’s so inviting,’ says Jodie. ‘I’ve never baked anything, other than a cake mixture for buns. But I might be better than I give myself credit for! If you can follow a recipe, you can bake. And I’m brilliant at

Yorkshire puddings!’

Competitive

But will Jodie impress the judges as she and her fellow bakers make cake-pops for the Signature, whip up a twisty

New York-inspired treat in the

Technical and create biscuit portraits of Paul and Prue for the Showstopper?

‘I have a healthy sense of competition but I tend to just wing it,’ smiles Jodie. ‘But as an actor, I need praise, so if I don’t get any, I’ll be gutted.’

Whether or not Jodie wins the

Star Baker apron, she says that she’s proud to be supporting Stand Up to Cancer.

‘You would be hard pushed to find someone who hasn’t been affected by cancer,’ reflects the Broadchurch and Time star. ‘Anything that raises money to fight something that’s so cruel is only positive.’
