Where’s the love?

Alison Hammond is a great presenter on This Morning and a wonderful TV personality who works well on lots of programmes, but I don’t think she’s suited to the ITV1 show For the Love of Dogs. She has empathy, but I wonder whether the love is quite there. Taking the series on after the passing of Paul O’grady, Alison’s had big shoes to fill, but I’m not sure she’s been up to it.

Doom and gloom…

I’ve watched BBC1’S Casualty since it began in 1986, but it’s been getting more and more miserable over the past few months. It used to have a bit of humour, but now it is like a documentary. I’m a 70-yearold woman who lives alone and I don’t want to watch this kind of programme. Gillian Simpson, Manchester

Dead good!

Netflix’s Dead Boy Detectives is an excellent fantasy drama that blends the paranormal with detective work, offering a refreshing twist on the genre. Based on comic books by Neil Gaiman, the show is about ghosts solving mysteries that afflict

ITV1’S new series Red Eye won’t win any BAFTAS, but the conspiracy thriller is full of action, drama and has a very good-looking lead in Richard Armitage, who plays Dr Matthew Nolan. The plot is full of clichés – a man framed for the murder of a beautiful woman and an MI5 chief having an affair with someone from the CIA – but it has

other supernatural beings. The plots were intriguing, while the visual effects and cinematography created a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere. I really hope there’s another series! Idrees Ahmed, Leicester

Powerful portrayal

David Ames is absolutely brilliant as manipulative, treacherous head master and conversion ‘therapist’ Carter Shepherd in C4 soap Hollyoaks. However, scheming, sanctimonious Carter could not be further removed from troubled domesticabuse victim Dominic Copeland, whom David played in BBC1’S Holby City. David is completely convincing in Hollyoaks, just as he was in Holby City, been easy viewing and great fun to watch. I can’t wait to see how this twisted story full of shadows and secrets concludes.

Above and beyond

The second series of Beyond Paradise on BBC1 was a breath of fresh air! Filmed in beautiful Devon and Cornwall, the simple storylines consisted mainly of petty crime and there was no bad language, which makes a pleasant change these days. Following the surprising ending to the finale, in which Humphrey and his lovely fiancée Martha decided not to get married, I really hope there’s a third series!, Ruth Shaw, Powys Ed’s note: The BBC has confirmed that the show will return for a third series
