FamilySearch adds French content
International genealogy website familysearch.org has expanded its collection of French material with 3.3 million census records from three different areas of the country.
Spanning 1875-1906, the new additions allow genealogists to uncover the full name, address, date of birth, and in some the cases, place of birth, of their French ancestors.
The tranche comprises the 1876, 1891 and 1906 censuses for the department of Hérault in southern France, censuses from 1876 and 1906 for Côtes-d’Armor in Brittany, and the 1906 census for Nord, in the north of the country.
French citizens listed in the 1906 census might have watched the fourth Tour de France, with those in Nord possibly witnessing cheating when supporters of rival cyclists scattered nails on the road between Paris and Lille.
In addition to the French material, FamilySearch has also published new Catholic records from the province of Entre Ríos, Argentina (1764-1983), city and church records from Stockholm (1546-1927), and assorted documents from the Netherlands.
