Berwick archivist Linda Bankier says: “Berwick-uponTweed is in Northumberland, England, while the county of Berwickshire is in Scotland. Ancestry lists place of birth for Berwick as Berwickshire, Scotland. If you can’t find the record of a marriage in North Northumberland after 1754, it could be an ‘irregular marriage’ in Scotland.”
