How to start using Kindeo

1 Sign up

Open the App Store and search for ‘Kindeo’. Once the app is downloaded, tap ‘Open’. Follow the wizard through, providing your name, email address and setting a strong password – something you remember, but which isn’t easily guessed. Tap ‘Continue’.

2 Select your first question

You’ll be taken to the main screen. Tap ‘Next’ to be guided through the process of recording a video. You’ll first be shown a series of topics – tap one to reveal a series of questions. Select one, then tap ‘Okay, got it’ followed by ‘OK’ twice to let Kindeo use your camera and mic.

3 Prepare to record your video

Your iPad’s front-facing camera will be selected and you should be able to see yourself. Choose a location – somewhere without a distracting background – and make some notes to structure your answer. Source any props – a childhood toy, for instance – you might need.

5 Review, re-record or save

You can play back the recording by tapping ‘Play’. Use the slider to skip to different parts of the recording. If you’re unhappy, tap ‘Record again’ or tap the bin to abandon this recording completely. If you like what you see, tap ‘Save & Continue’.

7 Share with your family

Once you’ve recorded some videos, tap ‘Back’ to return to the home screen. Now tap ‘Your Family’ followed by ‘Add Family’. Enter their first name and email address, then tap ‘Invite Family’. You’ll see their name appear in the ‘Your Family’ section where you control their access.

4 Record your clip

Tap ‘Start Recording’ to record your video. Although you can see yourself, try to avoid looking directly at the screen – remember the camera is to the left of it, so train your eye on there. Talk for as long as you feel the need to – three minutes is only a guide – then tap ‘Stop’.

6 Upload, continue and review

Your video will be uploaded – a progress meter will appear next to the question. This can carry on in the background, so tap another question or tap ‘Back’ to choose a new topic and move on to the next one. You can replay, re-record or delete a video simply by tapping its question.

8 Answer more questions

Recipients will receive an email (ask them to check their spam folder if they can’t find it) with a link that they click to sign up for Kindeo. Once done they can view your videos and ask you more questions via www.kindeo.com/family – view and answer these through your Kinbox.
