Family history websites
Reading your May issue, I came upon Peter Patilla’s letter about his Lynam family history website, and an invitation from you for subscribers to share theirs.
My wife and I both have websites which have been most successful in generating a worldwide response from family, researchers, social historians, authors and other interested parties. Mine, thekingscandlesticks.com, features the Julius, Alston, Liveing, Fenn and related families, mainly centred in the UK. It had over three million hits when it opened in 2016.
My wife’s, thelockedjournal .com, is centred on her family, very early settlers in South Australia from England and Scotland. It tells the story of the trials and tribulations of the early emigrants, mainly documented in the journal after which the site is named.
Audrey’s site went up late last year and is already generating over 40,000 hits a month. The sites contain no living persons but have proved a great success in linking up living family. Perhaps your readers could use them to find some family links? Edward and Audrey Fenn by email Editor replies: Thank you for sharing your sites with us. I particularly enjoyed reading John Broadbent’s journal from his time in the Australian gold rush on Audrey’s site. Our article on page 54 about researching gold rush ancestors should be right up her street!
