Military uniform dating advice bit.ly/ 2t49vSN I recently came across a ‘new’ photo and I thought I knew who the soldier was.

I had decided on Charles Greenfield, born 9 December 1891 at Great Coates, Lincolnshire. He joined the 1st North Midland ( Reserve) Brigade RFA in January 1915 and was then in France throughout the war. His medal card shows that he was awarded both the Victory and British medals.

I’ve had to reduce the resolution of the photo, but the original shows the word ‘Kent’ on the badge, along with some words I can’t make out. Embossed in the bottom right-hand corner is the name of the studio ( C Gently & Co, I think, of Bangalore).

I wonder if the photo relates to later service. Perhaps he re- enlisted? Any thoughts would be very welcome. Singleton1922 Samuel Cooper Young bit.ly/ 2t4r4Cm I’m researching my 3x great grandmother, Mary Cooper Young, who was born around 1855 in Sunderland, although I’ve not been able to locate her actual birth certificate.

I’m finding it difficult to research the family name, as I’m not sure if ‘Cooper’ is a second Christian name or double- barrelled surname. I’ve tried all different combinations.

When Mary married on 8 May 1979 she was living in Brotton in the district of Guisborough, Yorkshire, and her father Samuel was already dead. I would be grateful for any suggestions about what I should do next. CazE Who is my Agnes Graham? bit.ly/ 2t4hXle Agnes Graham married Frederick Vaughan on 9 June 1825 at St Nicholas, Brighton, Sussex. In the 1841 census she is living at Wellington Place with her daughter, Harriett, and is shown as being born in Scotland.

Agnes was buried on 31 January 1853 aged 53 in Brighton, having died in the union workhouse. Although she was in the workhouse for the 1851 census, the page with the surnames from T to Z (the names being recorded in alphabetical order) have been either badly damaged or are missing, which means that I am unable to tell where in Scotland she was born.

Unfortunately, there are quite a few Agnes Grahams born in Scotland within the period of two years either side of 1800. If anyone knows which one of these would be my Agnes – or of any which would definitely not be my Agnes – I would appreciate hearing from you. tubbas Takoradi Route bit.ly/ 2skvMyE My father talked about working the Takoradi Route during the Second World War. He was an engineer who worked on the planes.

Does anyone know how the route worked and what his job might have entailed? I know he said he went to Cairo and for a while also worked at El Ballah. Mandy Gulley
