I learned a lot from Au­drey Collins’ guide to the 1939 Reg­is­ter this month. As women’s sur­names were up­dated when they mar­ried, it’s use­ful to know that the date of­ten recorded next to a mar­ried name may ac­tu­ally be that of the wed­ding (al­though be­ware, some­times it isn’t!).
