WW1 nurses scrapbooks project wins £500 award

A project to share First World War nurses’ scrapbooks online has won this year’s £500 Community History Project prize from the Women’s History Network. A team of 32 volunteer nurses worked with Royal College of Nursing Library and Archives staff to scan and transcribe 10 scrapbooks, which are available at rcn.org.uk/servicescrapbooks. The judges said that the project “help[ed] address the gender imbalance in accessible primary material from the Great War”.
