Mischief Night Mayhem!
The Burnley News reported that seven youths were summoned at Clotheroe County Police Court for “causing wilful damage to plants growing in a garden owned at Downham by Walter Briggs”. They had released 50 sheep into the garden on 4 November, causing £3 worth of damage, in what the paper called “a piece of devilment perpetrated because it was ‘mischief night’”. The boys pleaded guilty, and paid damages and 5s each.
