Use wildcards when searching for records relating to registers. For example, on ancestry.co.uk ‘*’ represents zero to five characters, so ‘elec*’ will find ‘election(s)’, ‘elector(s)’ and ‘electoral’ (plus ‘electricity’, unfortunately).
