Daughter of Maharaja Duleep Singh and goddaughte­r of Queen Victoria, Princess Sophia Alexandra Duleep Singh was one of several South Asian women to pioneer the cause of British women’s rights, even becoming president of the Committee of the Suffragett­e Fellowship. During the war, she volunteere­d at a Red Cross hospital in Brighton, nursing Indian soldiers evacuated from the Western Front.
