Street shot

This is my favourite photograph of my mum and nan. Taken in the early 1930s, it is a wonderful photo of them personally and of the times.

Trip to the seaside

My parents met in 1949. They both lived in London, but are seen here on a visit to Southend in June of that year.

Sailor’s sacrifice

This is a cousin of my grandmother who died when the HMS Vanguard sank in Scapa Flow in 1917.

Group photo

Here is a formal photo of my great grandparents (seated) with my maternal grandad. It is lovely to have a picture ofthem all together.

Police puzzle

I have always been fascinated by this photograph but didn’t know who it was, until the magazine’s forum helped me work out that it shows my grandad’s uncle.

Perfect portrait

I love this photo of my maternal great grandfather. It’s a proper close-up – you can actually see his features!

Depiction of youth

This is my father’s uncle. We were very close to him, but I only knew him as an older man with white hair. This photo shows him as a dapper young man, which I find fascinating.

A soldier’s service

This is another picture of my maternal grandad. I have yet to look into his military details, but hope this photo has enough clues to give me a good start.
