When the 1939 Register was first put online by findmypast.co.uk,
I looked for a relative who was born in early 1939, but her record was closed. This was as expected, but when I looked again in 2017, her record had been opened.
This was especially valuable as it also gave her adopted surname, which enabled my research to progress. I assume Findmypast had found a record of her death, and so opened the record. I wanted to share with other readers that it is worth checking periodically to see if closed records have been updated. Pamela Brown, by email
Editor Replies: Thank you Pamela. Of course it is possible to request an entry to be opened, but it’s also worth checking regularly that records haven’t been opened anyway.
