FamilySearch: Parish Registers
Unlock crucial details of births, marriages and deaths
Project Overview As in 2017 and 2018, we’ll be joining forces with FamilySearch to index more of the website’s collections of English parish records. This time, volunteers will be asked to identify individuals found in baptism, marriage and burial registers from areas including Cambridge, Cumbria, Hereford, Huntingdon and Shropshire.
How Will It Help?
The indexed material will be added to FamilySearch’s collections and made available to access for free. Researchers will then be able to search the registers by details such as name and date, rather than having to sift through hundreds of microfilm scans to find the entries that they want.
How Do I Take Part?
The work can be carried out within a web browser. Volunteers simply need to visit familysearch.org/ indexing and follow the instructions to start indexing a parish register collection of their choice. Participants will need to create a free FamilySearch account if they don’t have one already.
