Married

Writer and critic Samuel Johnson (1709–1784), creator of A Dictionary of the English Language (1755), married Elizabeth ‘Tetty’ Porter (née Jervis, 1689– 1752) at St Werburgh’s Church in Derby on 9 July 1735. She was 46, and a widow with three children.
