The centre holds original records and microform copies of all kinds of sources including parish material; court records; hospital, Poor Law and school records; electoral records; and collection­s relating to families, businesses and individual­s. The website has a wealth of fascinatin­g material for casual browsers, alongside guides to specific sources held here (for example quarter sessions, land tax, parish registers and the Queen’s Royal Surrey Regiment). The East Surrey FHS covers all of the eastern side of the historic county, including London boroughs south of the Thames (Croydon, Kingston, Lambeth, Merton, Richmond, Southwark, Sutton and Wandsworth). It holds branch meetings in Croydon, Lingfield, Richmond, Southwark and Sutton, and runs a research centre in Lingfield.

West Surrey Family History Society

The society covers both rural and metropolit­an Surrey. It holds regular meetings at several venues across west Surrey, and an open day takes place at Woking Leisure Centre every November. The society produces a range of publicatio­ns including indexes and transcript­s of parish registers, wills, monumental inscriptio­ns, Poor Law records and court records, while member benefits include a quarterly magazine and online access to indexes and records.
